In February 2016, Still Waters Services for Families in Transition incorporated and started the Tukwila Weekend Snack Pack to address food insecurity over the weekend.
Leading with our mission, we support families overcome food insecurities while unhoused. Tukwila Weekend Snack Pack provides shelf stable-kid friendly meals for the weekend to students in Tukwila.
As a result of our work, students return to school able to focus on their academic goals, which contributes to higher graduation outcomes, improving the likelihood of food & housing stability in the future.
We have different opportunities that can lead you to fulfill your internship hours or volunteer hours for your school program. Shopping, helping with inventory, picking up donations are a vital part to prepare for the production line for the Tukwila Weekend Snack Pack Program. The most fun part is delivering the snack packs to our school communities. Engaging with our community is important to us because we believe it takes the whole community in order to make our programs thrive.
Are you interested in co-creating a fundraiser and putting your vision into our community. We give our interns the opportunity to collaborate with us and put your creativity out there and support you through the process.

Marina, Intern Tacoma Community College
Since the beginning of my educational career, my mission has been to find strength in togetherness. I knew that when searching for an internship it was important for me to find an organization that aligned with my mission and goals.
Working with Still Waters has not only been rewarding in serving the community, but I also have found hope in the kindness and love in those I have had the chance to meet. At times during the week, I count out items for the meals, or take inventory on what items are left over, and I save this time and space for reflection.
This reflection is sometimes on times in my own life when I have benefited from programs like Still Waters. I think of it as me being able to care for a younger version of myself, maybe at a time when I didn’t have the care or support that I needed.
Reflecting on this has helped heal parts of myself that I had forgotten about and also brings me closer to the work that I am doing right now. It is intentional work. Sometimes this reflection time is to think about the impact that my actions have had on those around me and those I haven’t even had the chance to meet.
I feel very lucky to have become more familiar with the Tukwila community. I have learned so much about my community, this organization and myself and how valuable and powerful these things are when we work together. I look forward to being able grow with this organization and community.
